The Last laugh...In response to Shantanil's EYC Contest # 30
Just a small mouse? You laughed
I’ll devour you within minutes
Without any trouble
But I like the way you run from me
It gives me thrills and makes me laugh
I feel the power of being a mighty one
Who can tease you the way I want
I can make you run and pant
I can make you beg and cry
I love this game of chasing you
But it makes me happy when you die
Die to give me the power of a terminator
Die to fuel my hungry ego
I listened, with a wildly beating heart
I despise you oh killer Owl
I wept on my small size
Oh I wish I were like you
Then it would be a fight of equals
You taking pride on your size?
Making fun of my rising fear
Oh how I wish to dare
Oh how I wish to do something
To kill my own fear
I will change it if it is my destiny
I will challenge you with all my might
Then it would be a death of pride
Then you will think before
Taking any small creature for ride
I turned and looked into your eyes
You stopped your flight
You were afraid of me
With a mock horror you pretended
I kept my fiery glance at you
It was a fight of rain and dew
You landed for your last hunt
And there was a snake
Who laughed with a grunt
It attacked you
When your senses were
On my tiny frame
He killed you in an instance
And I could see the fear in you
I saw you disappearing in its large size
I could see the death of yours
In your own eyes
Now
I smiled at this game of destiny
Who attacks without any sound
I returned safe to my small hole
I was the one who had the last laugh

When I read the first stanza (the owl's voice) I was reminded of the great poems of Ted Hughes (poet laureate, England, until he died a few years ago). He writes passionately about the violence in nature, especially among animals. But your second stanza is totally different from that.
An excellent poem.

WoW!!! our dear Promilla...You landed on the target ...

Awesome way to convey the message in such a narrative style & you have done it with such an ease
Just Superb!!! Nice realities, good anology, expressible emotions, eventual entertainment to feel the punch lines for the message it left to the readers mind.
Great to see this Contest motivations from our Yashbhai has started doing wonders in bringing our sulekhites opening up their pandora box of skills & talents to share with the other.
A wonderful job well done....My sincere appreciations and best of luck for ever.
