Happiness… Only State of Mind
Aha… the word happiness itself spread the positive vibes in our system. A thin line of smile, and a heart full of pleasure, a breathtaking view, or a piece of music, a baby’s smile or just a torrent rain….are the reasons enough to fill the soul and body with a mystic emotion called happiness.
‘Happiness belongs to the self-sufficient’—Aristotle, the well-known philosopher described the happiness in his own way, but it is very clear and evident that he stresses in saying that happiness is something which comes from within. The worldly and materialistic things can not obtain it. The spirit of things becomes pleasure or happiness when you work and speak and benefit others by your good deeds. So doing good and expecting nothing in return brings happiness is what Buddha preaches.
‘Happiness comes when your work and words are of benefit to yourself and others.’ Buddha.
Does happiness depends upon the worldly pleasures? If we define happiness in worldly sense then it is the feel good factor which fills the heart with some kind of pleasure. If we posses a healthy mind and a healthy body and nurture simple living then happiness can never elude us. Though the comforts can bring in temporary state of happiness but that is not long lasting. Happiness in simple words is state of mind, which keeps on changing from time to time and situation to situation. The things, which bring happiness at a particular period, might not be life long. Human mind and nature is fluctuating. Change is the law of nature. Nothing is permanent. So things brought with money or luxuries cannot be the guarantee of pleasure.
Is being successful is happiness? Franklin D. Roosevelt has described it as --‘Happiness is not in the mere possession of money; it lies in the joy of achievement, in the thrill of creative effort.’
Many people who are on the top ladder of success are not happy. For them it does not exist. They always keep on cribbing and making excuses but the fact is they do not feel happy in spite of being on the top. That’s why it is said that ‘On top its very lonely.’ The race of being top and remaining there snatches the pleasure, and people just become the part of rat race, which never gives them the peace of mind. So success too is not what we can call happiness. Achieving goals in life may bring some temporary pleasures but we can’t say that only success is happiness.
In my opinion happiness is a process of some small chains entwined together. Comforts, success, attitude, our good deeds, consideration towards others in a fair way and so many small little things join like a chain and create the euphoria called happiness. We all have our own reasons to be happy and there may not be only one or two reasons behind it. There is a lot, which is different for everyone.

Hi Chanchal ji
I liked your philosophy of happiness. But don't you think some times mind play weird and absurd games with us? If we have a small car we aspire for a big one, if we are living in a flat we start thinking of our own house n all...it never stops if we see for the Materialistic things.
Thanks for expressing your views. :))
